Designing a Better Future

The simplest definition of art is communication.
The most powerful weapon of the past century was not the bomb. It was information. Design is how that information is shaped, understood, and delivered. Design is how we communicate.
Design connects the past, present, and future. Archaeologists interpret civilizations through the objects, symbols, architecture, and visual languages they leave behind. Today, every profession has its own design language. Through artificial intelligence, user experience, and emerging technologies, we are now creating the visual and interactive systems that will shape how future generations understand the world.
We ignore the influence of design at our peril. Our current education system does students a profound disservice by treating art and design as hobbies rather than essential systems through which people process knowledge, communicate ideas, and solve problems. Without art and design, there are no textbooks, digital interfaces, meaningful technologies, or clear pathways toward a better future.
I have made it my mission to help change this trajectory by empowering students to become thoughtful creators, visual communicators, problem-solvers, and architects of the future.

Dr. Denise Davis-Cotton and Bill Ferrell

Investing in art and design education is essential, but funding alone is not enough. We must also rethink how we teach, giving students the creative tools, critical thinking skills, and confidence they need to shape their own futures.
When we empower our students, we strengthen our society and expand what is possible for the world we hope to build.
